Did anyone else out there happen to play on iRO Sakray and remember these images at all?
I was digging through my webspace and found a bunch of random images from the ancient days of iRO Sakray. The server doesn’t even exist anymore, as it got merged into Iris. I still have a bunch of the sigs I made for people, but I’m missing the Crying Siam face and the Knight GT beats up everyone pics. The game itself is pure shit and is miles behind other games on functionality and it was always about fucking cute headgear and the devs did retarded shit for Hunters like “A SKILL BASED OFF OF YOUR STRENGTH! …WHICH HUNTERS HAVE LITTLE OF!” but all of that Sakray server bullshit was fun.
A common attitude among some MMO players is that they will complain about the game to fuck and back, but still play, and when asked why they stay, they answer “the people/the community.” As a person who once said this, I can tell you that that phrase is really just code speak for, “I’m a drama whore” as the sentimentality I have about Sakray is all just hilarious e-drama. Long after I quit, I used to drop by the Ragna Info forums and catch up on the latest bullshit. The internet is somehow vast yet small as I see posters from RI like ange vie, saturnine, Galyn, and Taulin in IRC. Ragna Info forum people seemed to have moved to iRO Wiki, but it isn’t the same since it’s run by retarded as bricks ~Blueness~ and there’s no rant sub-forum.
The game I got the most addicted to was Lineage 2, triple boxin’ on live servers, busting a grand in subscriptions, but I barely remember anything from L2 whereas if I thought about it long enough, I could probably recount a lot about my time on iRO. Although, the subscription thing reminds me of something else about iRO… Recently it opened up a free server, and before that it opened up a cash shop.
I have played some free mmo’s with cash shops for income, namely Rappelz, Perfect World (MY), Atlantica, ArchLord, and Granado Espada (SG). Cash shop centric games like those are less polished than srsbsns subscription games.
Engrish. If you’re an Asian-origin subscription game and failing at polishing your game, then you become a f2p pretty quickly. Really. ArchLord tried to be a subscription game but that went to hell very quickly. GE too, same story. K2’s Sword of the New World (aka north american GE) tried to do that too and also very quickly became f2p. No one can compete with WoW these days, so cash shop milk people to their last breath~
Ironically these cash shop games often offer packages that last 1mo and are equivalent in value to a month of a typical subscription game ($14.99), like Rappelz’s hidden village pass is 1500 GP = $15. (Though they also do this dick move where you can only reload your cash shop points in $10 increments.) When you read the forums, people talk about how convenient it is to just be able to blow money when you please, and that they’d never play a subscription game, but by the time they are done with that f2p/cs game, they have probably spent more on it than they would have on 6mo of a subscription game.
I really like City of Heroes/City of Villain’s gimmick, and Atlantica’s battle system, and iRO’s drama, and WoW’s meta, and Granado’s character designs, L2’s elf chicks, and Perfect World’s character customization, and harassing the XenoEmoWings in Rappelz~ Finding an mmo that you really like and sticking to it is fucking hard. I quit playing WoW and am re-visiting Atlantica atm in Something Awful’s guild, though I will probably get bored of that and go do something else by next month. I’m just re-playing games instead of trying out new ones, but it’s all just buying time until Aion gets released. Speaking of which, I will be shit pissed if Aion is like the worst mmo ever because I am totally buying into all of the shiny that NCsoft is hyping it with.

How can you finish WoW so quickly when Wrath just came out?
