A hypothetical day in the life of the Executives of Bandai Entertainment

After hearing about the Kurokami licensing and US distribution, I have a mental image of days in the Bandai office to be like this.

Yoshida Toshifumi: “We’re going to bring this upcoming anime, Kurokami, to the states.”

Random: “All right.”

Yoshida Toshifumi: “We’ll arrange it so a dub airs on US TV around at the same time as the Japanese version.”

Random: “Oh, that’s an excellent idea. I’m sure viewers will think we’re taking a step in the right direction.”

Yoshida Toshifumi: “But it’ll be only be on one channel.”

Random: “That’s normal. Anime isn’t all that mainstream. Which channel anyway? Sci-Fi like for Gundam and Gurren Lagann? Or the Adult Swim block on Cartoon Network?”

Yoshida Toshifumi: “The channel is imaginasian TV.”

Random: “Err I’ve never heard of that one before. I wonder if my cable company has it…”

Yoshida Toshifumi: “You need a fairly high tier cable subscription to get it, just a step up from the basic plan won’t do.”

Random: “Hm, my cable company doesn’t seem to have it. Are you sure you got the name right?”

Yoshida Toshifumi: “Well it’s available in very limited areas. You might not have it in your area.”

Random: “Limited areas and requires a higher tier plan? Uhh okay, which areas?”

Yoshida Toshifumi: “Los Angeles, Hawaii, Princeton, Northern Virgina, Dallas, Houston, New York City, Edison.”

Random: “And?”

Yoshida Toshifumi: “And? What do you mean and? That’s all.”

<awkward pause goes here.>

Random: “…if it’s going to be shown in so few places, then surely there must be a more easily accessible web stream or something too, right?”

Yoshida Toshifumi: “I dunno. Who cares anyway, this is a nearly simultaneous broadcasting!!11″

By now, the random guy is probably confused, and you should be too. There is of course always the possibility of other channels picking it up or web streaming being announced, but all they’ve announced and released so far is that its going to be on one extremely uncommon channel and that Yoshida is enthusiastic to be taking part in “history” so things look kind of dumb right now. (I hope Kurokami gets oversubbed.)

  1. Its due to stuff like this that I’m glad that Madman(Aus/NZ distributor) doesn’t really care anymore. Anyway wouldn’t it have been more logical just to release the DVDs as opposed to airing it under such circumstances?
Aside from that inevitable Bandai Fails are inbound.

  2. Hahaha, whoever was in charge of that decision needs a good punch in the mouth.

  3. It’s sad how Im Dal’s first work to be anime’d basically gets the shaft. Though the art isn’t as good as the other works, it’s still a decent work. Hopefully they use this one as a frontier and figure out how not to suck up UxU, cause if they do that, it’s over =[

  4. I wonder how the staff feeling in Adult Swim how Black God (Kurokami)feeling right now after kinda of thing and but anyway I’ll just wait until someone posted up youtube or get on DVD!
